Nicolas Boulerice with Frédéric Samson: Confine au voyages

April 23, 2023 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$15 – $20

Catamount Arts is pleased to present progressive Francophone folk duo Nicolas Boulerice and Frédéric Samson at York Street Meeting House in Lyndon, Sunday, April 23rd, at 7pm. Boulerice and Samson will present “Confine aux voyage,” an evening of traditional Quebecois folk music, vivid soundscapes, poetry, and imagery inspired by the album “Maison de pierres.”

Intimate as a living room concert, “Confine aux voyage” is an intimate production layered with yearning vocals, double bass, and ambient sounds including the call of migratory birds, craftspeople at work, and stirring weather. The emotive work, created by Nicolas Boulerice (founding member of progressive Francophone folk band Le Vent du Nord) and double bassist Frédéric Samson, sets traditional lament songs against contemplative soundscapes captured in Boulerice’s hometown of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu in Quebec.

This sonic encounter is an exploration and reflection of one’s place in the world, born of a territory and the sounds of a place in time, under the theme of travel, memory, and love. Nicolas and Frédéric invite audiences to travel alongside them through bare, revealing song cycles accompanied by double bass, birdsong, wind witches, boat engines, still imagery and poetry. They carry with them traditional songs of centuries past made anew in a jazz setting.

“Confine aux voyages” offers an opportunity to listen to stories, reflect, and project oneself back into the present, an experience of infinity. This concert is inspired by the album “Maison de pierres,” made during the first spring lockdown in Quebec, and offers a truly special, immersive experience shared in a way that only Boulerice’s unmistakable voice can create.
