Accessibility Resources

The Council has compiled resources and information to help arts organizations as well as artists who have questions about making their programs and services accessible. Publications providing technical assistance include the National Endowment for the Arts' Design for Accessibility: A Cultural Administrators Handbook.

The Council requires the use of disability symbols in your publications to highlight access accommodations. For a list of all 12 symbols, their meanings, and tiff files for use in publications please go to the website of the Guild of Graphic Designers. 

VAC Accessibility Workshop

Are your programs and activities presented in a setting that allows people with and without disabilities equal access? Section 504 and ADA regulations require cultural organizations receiving federal funds to conduct a self-evaluation in order to identify barriers that may restrict access to individuals with various disabilities.  This can be a useful tool for developing your organization's access plans and for determining how access improvements can be implemented.  The workshop will include tips for completing a successful self-evaluation and examples  for developing your own document.

Presenters include: Renee Wells, Accessibility Consultant for Cultural Institutions and Michele Bailey, Program Director/ADA Coordinator for the Vermont Arts Council.
