The purpose of the Creation Grant is to support the creation of new work by Vermont artists. Where possible, projects should strive to stimulate greater public understanding of the art form.
New this year for FY2011: In response to comments from the field, we are trying a new platform for the application this year. It is a user-friendly application and eliminates the need to send support materials by mail.
The entire application, including submission of support materials, will be completed online. Only Audio, Video, Image and PDF files will be accepted.
The grant amount for this program is a fixed sum of $3,000 per award. The Council typically awards 12 to 15 Grants of $3,000 each.
APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN on March 10, 2010.

NOTE: An applicant may receive only one Creation Grant in a three-year period. (For example, if you received a Creation Grant in FY2008 you may apply again in FY2011) . If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact us.
If you receive a Creation Grant in FY11 you may not apply in any other category until FY12.
Creation and Development of New Work: Applicants to this category must be able to demonstrate that the primary component of the proposal is to fund the time, supplies, facilities (rehearsal or studio), etc. for the creation of new work. Work may be at various stages of completion. Also, either during the grant period or after, there must be strong potential for public presentation of the work created. Strong potential may be demonstrated by a history of public presentations of past work or by a letter of intent/support from a presenter, exhibitor, etc.
(Examples: A writer who wishes to complete the first draft of a novel and will conduct a series of readings of the new work at local libraries. A dance ensemble will choreograph a piece, which will be available wholly or in part for touring to area presenters.)
Applicants must complete an Arts Directory listing.
Individual artists who have received a creation grant are required to attend a accessibility workshop, "Making Your Art Come Alive To a Broader Population". This workshop will be sponsored by the Council and will be offered annually. 2011 Creation Grant recipients must attend the Spring 2011 workshop. Date and time TBA.
