The purpose of the Teaching Artist Residency Grant is to support artist residencies in schools using Vermont Arts Council's designated Teaching Artists (or Juried Education Artists.)
NOTE: Grant applicants must use designated Teaching Artists (or Juried Education Artists) listed in the Council's online Arts Directory for the majority of artists in their projects. These grants are generally intended for smaller educational institutions, for applicants that have not received Council funding in a number of years, and/or have never received funding from the Council.
Grant amounts range from $500-$1500.
FY10 Applications are no longer being accepted.
NOTE: We will be accepting FY2011 applications beginning July 30, 2010 for activities taking place between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and must be submitted ONLINE at least 60 days before an event or activity is to occur. Applicants are usually notified within 45 days of the submission date. Activities for FY11 must be completed by August 31, 2011. Projects cannot be funded retroactively.
In general this category is for educational institutions.
Organizations must meet the requirements under the “Who May Apply” Section in the General Program Guidelines.

If you have received Grant in any other category during the FY11 grant year you may not apply.
Eligible activities for Teaching Artist Residency Grants include:
- School residencies that are a minimum of five (5) days and include a core group who meets with the artist for a minimum of 5 classes or 5 hours;
- Residencies that are conducted by a designated Teaching Artists; (or Juried Artist with an "Education" designation listed in the Council's online Arts Directory)
- Activities in which the teacher is present and participating.

Staff review and score applications according to the following criteria:
Application requirements include employment of Juried Artists listed in the online Arts Directory, a minimum of five (5) days in length, and a core group;
- The project is clearly planned and presented, preparation and follow up for the residency are indicated, evidence of potential impact on student learning beyond the project duration, and is based on the Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities, Grade Expectations, or National Standards (maximum 20 points);
- The residency includes a planning team of at least one classroom teacher, one administrator (i.e. principal or curriculum coordinator), and the artist (maximum 15 points);
- The residency provides opportunities for professional development for teachers/administrators (maximum 15 points);
- The residency provides students and participants opportunities for exposure to an artist or an art form the first time, or employs culturally diverse artists (maximum 10 points) ;
- The residency reaches underserved populations and the applicant is in compliance with the Requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (maximum 10 points);
- The applicant makes maximum use of available resources (including staff), and the budget is cost effective and indicates in-kind or cash support from the community (maximum 10 points)
- The evaluation plans are articulated and appropriate, and the applicant uses measurable goals for evaluating success (maximum 10 points);
- The promotional plans are adequate and have a plan for communicating activity and benefits to the community, and gives appropriate credit to the Vermont Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts (maximum 10 points);
